The Technology

TACTIQL is a Canadian defence technology company developing the software infrastructure required to make information generated by different military sensors and systems interoperable. Its FULCRUM platform ingests multiple data formats, processes and standardises them, converts information into recognised military and commercial standards and distributes it across networks and command-and-control systems. The company also develops LISRD, a ruggedised edge-compute node capable of hosting mission applications, geospatial services and AI workloads where connectivity to central infrastructure is limited. Unlike a number of the earlier-stage businesses within the cohort, TACTIQL is already operational, bootstrapped and cash-flow positive.

The Operational Challenge

Defence has spent decades acquiring sensors, vehicles and software from different manufacturers, countries and generations of technology. The result is an enormous amount of potentially valuable operational data trapped inside systems that were not necessarily designed to communicate with one another. TACTIQL's own material illustrates the consequence directly: information from sensors can still move upstream through voice reporting and manual data entry because networks and command systems cannot interpret the different formats being produced. The problem is therefore not an absence of data. It is getting existing data into the right system, in a usable format and quickly enough to influence a decision.

Why It Matters

TACTIQL enters Meridian with unusually strong evidence that this is already an operational requirement. Its technology has been baselined on the Canadian Army's mission network supporting NATO's Enhanced Forward Presence in Latvia, has supported Canadian Navy uncrewed-system integration and has been deployed at NATO and coalition exercises including CWIX and REPMUS. The company reports TRL 9+ validation by Canada and NATO and participation in NATO DIANA Phase II. For the UK, the relevance is particularly clear as Defence develops increasingly connected sensor-to-decision architectures. Those architectures only function if information can move across platforms, services and allied systems without requiring a new bespoke integration each time.
