The Technology
Blackmoor Defence is developing technologies designed to provide greater visibility into parts of the operating environment that are often invisible to the operator. Its initial product suite comprises SCOUT, a distributed RF and GNSS integrity-awareness system; SALT, an early-stage concept intended to introduce uncertainty into the sensing environment used by adversary autonomous systems; and Sea Sentinel, an intelligence and mission planning platform for monitoring activity around critical maritime infrastructure. Although addressing different applications, the technologies share an underlying approach built around distributed sensing, secure evidence, data fusion and operator decision support. The company currently estimates SCOUT at TRL 5, SALT at TRL 2 and Sea Sentinel at TRL 7.

The Operational Challenge
A dropped communications link, unexpected navigation error or suspicious vessel movement tells an operator that something may be wrong. It does not necessarily explain why. Modern military systems increasingly depend upon GNSS, radio frequencies, autonomous sensing and strategically important infrastructure whose condition and integrity cannot always be directly observed. Blackmoor is addressing that visibility gap, seeking to provide operators with a clearer picture of what is happening across the electromagnetic and maritime environment, how confident they can be in the information available to them and whether an anomaly requires action.

Why It Matters
The relevance of this capability extends across several substantial areas of defence and national-security activity. Electronic warfare can affect the navigation, communications and sensing systems upon which military operations depend, while subsea cables, pipelines and offshore infrastructure have become strategically important assets requiring greater protection and monitoring.
Blackmoor's proposition therefore sits across electronic warfare awareness, autonomous-system assurance, maritime security and critical-infrastructure protection rather than a single equipment programme. Importantly, the products are at different stages of maturity, providing Meridian with both a more developed Sea Sentinel capability and earlier-stage technologies that can be shaped around identifiable defence requirements.
